I awoke in a strange land,
blindfolded, stuck, spirit broken; a changed man,
cuffed to others, swingin’ picks in a chain gang,
singin’ licks ‘bout the troubles that the days brang,
our oppressors had scales and snake fangs;
rode pale horses, they bodies could shape-change,
told us that we were accomplishing great things,
and anybody who doesn’t believe it; they ain’t sane…
Legend has it they came in the night,
cut off the hands of any man able to write,
built churches and made ‘em recite verses,
but the worst was saved for any person that’s bravin’ to fight,
That’s why I’m here now, sweatin’ through my tunic,
Twenty men to cut a block, thirty more to move it,
Can’t help but wonder what it is we’re doin’,
But of course they never showin’ us no blueprints, stupid,
They said it was a palace for the gods…got me lookin’ hard at my ax,

He came close, I put it right through his thick skull,
Now my time has come, hacked through my shackles,
And with a last glance, I headed to the East towards the rising sun,

Exiled for not goin’ quietly…
On the third day, the sky was the color purple,
I knew, ‘cause I looked up to see the buzzards circle,
Past parched and beyond famished, I saw an orchard in the distance
But as I approached it, the mirage vanished,
In it’s place, silhouetted against the landspread,
A statue; the body of a lion with a man’s head,
I rubbed my eyes, but it was still there,
I noticed somethin’ risin’ in the distance behind it and I got real scared…
Some kinda ill square flipped on its side,
looked like a limestone mountain, but the tip was an eye
I realized this was the fruits of our labor; their holy palace;
The project that they’d used to enslave us,
And then I wondered if anybody died happy,
That’s when I noticed that the all-seeing eye was pointing right at me…
Then I snapped back to real life, starin’ at my money;
Wonderin’ “what if I kill tonight…?”
